Location: 30 miles from Shanghai in Songjiang
This futuristic looking hotel is being built on the site of an abandoned quarry and even features some rooms underwater. The hotel is still in the design stage, even though construction has commenced (it’s China). It is expected to be ready sometime between 2013 and 2015.
The architecture company known as Atkins won an international design competition to design this five-star resort hotel that will be located in the 100-meter-deep water filled quarry in the Songjiang district near Shanghai.
The design was inspired by the features of the quarry and will be a green sustainable hotel with a green roof and featuring waterfalls, underwater aquariums, and green areas as well as having over 400 guest rooms, underwater public areas with restaurants, a banquet center, a conference center that holds up to 1,000 people, cafes, and sport facilities such as the opportunity to go bungee jumping.
With all of these features the Songjiang Hotel is sure to become a tourist hot spot and a great travel destination in China.
The Songjiang Shimao Hotel Facilities facilities for extreme sports, a visitor center and a five star hotel with some underwater rooms. The hotel has 380-400 beds, as well as having conference rooms for up to 1,000 people, a exquisite banquet hall, and of course some restaurants and cafes on the ground floor and above the hotel.
There will be two underwater floors, the lowest of which will have a swimming pool as well as some other expected water sports facilities. There will also be an aquarium with a depth of ten metres.
This hotel sounds amazing I’m very curious to see if they will pull it off. They even say they will be have extreme sports areas including rock climbing and bungee jumping.
